I guess I am not familiar with that, but I thought speakeasy was sort of rugged looking with a black iron look to the hardware.

this is the only pic on houzz i could find with silver colored hardware. What do you think?

They do have the iron over the little peep door. I figured I could paint it, or would that be a terrible idea.

Typical speak easy doors have black rod iron. As with anything, you can change out what works for you. But the closest I would change is to a grayed weathered look for hardware. I love these doors and they deserve their heritage. The pic above is a good example with the speak easy cover with the iron changed by the elements. It even looks a bit rusted.
