| I've been keeping an eye on my local Craigslist for some older furniture that can be reupholstered. Pickings seem to be slim right now for something nice. There's plenty of beige microfiber blobby stuff, and red microfiber blobby stuff, and some really ugly stuff......
#1 Ugly American at it's finest...it takes me back, as in a bad acid flashback..
2. Wood is good....Add some more... odd little wooden protruberances..... Good for firewood, I guess.
3.Siezure inducing plaid....and the lumpy style only makes the lines line up strangely, which makes your eyes bleed worse

| Almost everyone here grew up in a house that went through an Early American phase. Of course that was in 1975 and the sofas are long gone. Funny that someone is still parking their a#% on one and now have decided to go on to brass and glass and think they can sell the EA! Somewhere I have a picture of me sleeping in a chair with the coolest EA patterned slipcover.... As far as seizure inducing...most people with seizures aren't triggered by flashing lights, crazy patterns....that is a very specific type of Epilepsy. I have an Epileptic child and I am more bothered by those things then the kiddo. (Not offended by your post just injecting a little fact) |

| Here is one from our local CL. Could be the sister couch to greywings post above. Described as "beige microfiber". Looks like it might eat you. But what the heck, it's FREE! |

| My find from 3 years ago. It was in terrible shape - worn frayed material and very ugly. I re did and love it. I also have the matching arm chair. My house is around 100 years old with 10 foot ceilings with all natural oak woodwork. Modern furniture just not fit the house. |
#1. It's ALIVE!!! #2. I feel certain everyone has known someone with this couch at some point in their lives. #3. Bonus, because it's a sleeper. :shudder: Asking price for all three combined: $225. |
| this is just so wrong, in every way. But it's free! |

| Our local CL wasn't too bad today. Usually they're more like the ones you see above. I typically search on "vintage" or "retro", so I get stuff that's amazing but $$$ or else these above. |

| I actually had a couch just like that first one back in 1978. |

| Oops, the picture didn't post. Oh well, CL karma is out to get me. I inquired about a vintage coffee table I saw today that has been there for a month, and it sold TODAY. That's what I get for thinking someone's couch is ugly. |
| I should be cleaning, but couldn't resist posting this doozy: ''Moving and need to sell my sofa. The best feature of this sofa is that it is comfortable! From non-smoking household. Non-pet household also (a rover or kitty has never been on this). No odors or unsightly stains. What I like about this one is that it is 7.5' long... you can actually lay down and sleep on it without your legs hanging over. Asking $125 cash. Act soon as this won't be listed forever.'' Don't be so sure about that... |

| OMG, I got a good belly laugh out of these posts, a real LOL that brought my son down to see what was so funny. And the text on all of these listings probably includes the word "BEAUTIFUL"! |
| I'm posting the link to this one, so you can decide whether the unfortunate spelling of 'comfortable' is a mistake, or related to the spots. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Free Sofa Bed and Love Seat
| "unfortunate spelling", OMG, too funny. I went onto my local CL looking for something to contribute, but most of them were actually usable, some would need slipcovers or reupholstering, but except for the pub-backs, nothing really wildly ugly. Saw a couple of wing chairs I would like to call about, like I need more stuff. |

| I love that they usually say "great condition", and "comfortable"...and I think "I know what that means", so I dont' click on them anymore. But every now and then I must have a weak moment, because I do click. My contribution is not one of the Michelin Man sofas that seem to flood my horrible local CL, but rather one that reminds me of a car fire...I can't seem to take my eyes off of it and I keep thinking about it...but, why? Maybe I imagine it with the wood painted in a high gloss black. And somehow it will look great in my house. Maybe I keep thinking how my crazy lime green wingback chair turned out so nicely in my house and now I see remakes of it (same color and style) selling for $6k in high end stores....and I just know I can hit the furniture lottery again...but I don't think this sofa set is it. And if you are interested, it is $800 for all 3 pieces. I guess the sofa is 2 pieces. |

| Nothing too terribly bad on my CL at the moment. These are a bit shudder inducing though ... Even the dog seems to be saying, "Help meeeee ..." The 80s called. It wants its sofa back. (No, wait - it doesn't really.) The seller has actually described this as a "BADASS" sofa. I'm pretty sure I don't want to associate Bad/Ass/Sofa in the same sentence. This may look better in person, but the photo makes it appear to be consumed by a flesh-eating bacteria. |

| That last one would look much better if it had pink velvet. |
| The commentary is making me laugh even more than the sofa pics. I'm sure I could come up with even better examples from our local CL but I chose this one because it includes a pet peeve - displaying their trash all over the object being sold or given away. Seriously? You can't even move the baggie of Fruit Loops and sippy cup before taking the picture? |
| Check out this one, for $2500 you get both this "Beautiful Silk Velvet Green Couch" AND the 2 pillars! SCORE! Description: "...is in New Condition, has been covered for years. NO PET HAIR OR SMOKERS........The Green Pillars goes with the couch $2500. The Couch is 80"in Long |
| Found another good set, gold this time! All for only $699. |
| I was going to stop posting because this is just too easy. But then this caught my eye. Originally $3600, now $200: |
| All I can think about is the person who bought these when they were new. Wonder what they thought when the delivery truck pulled up and unloaded it. Did they just love it? Did they freak out? Somehow I think the more ornate the sofa, the more the person probably loved it. |

| I started this thread because of the overwhelming amount of dreck....and I do mean overwhelming amount.. It ain't easy being green... Advertised with "Free Delivery"...buy they aren't up to paying someone to take it away just yet. (This one was a possibility to reupholster because of the lines, but it's a separate pillow back, and those slide down behind the seat cushions and I hate dealing with re-arranging the cushions everytime I want to sit.) Imagine if the picture was actually in focus.... "Very comfortable & looks great!" If you have a Twiggy behind and need coke bottle glasses maybe.... "New fabric!" I'd hate to see the old then.... Retro 80's look! Recline in comfort....as long as you keep your eyes closed. Another bit of hard evidence that "custom" does't automatically equate with high quality or tastefullness.... More Ugly American... OK, I confess, some might think this ugly, but I actually LIKE this one. It's vintage cool, especially with the built in ashtray in the loveseat...But I just don't have the right space for this. I even like the colors in this as well as the shape, it's very "today"..if they'll come down on the price enough to pay for me to redo it, we might have a winner. |

"Great, sturdy, comfortable couch! Best couch I have ever own." Aw, geez, now I feel really sorry for them if this is the best and they think it's "sturdy".. OK, the fabric knocks you upside the head....but the lines on this are pretty cool...it's also a possibility, but it's 100 miles from here, and they'll have to send some better pics of the structure first. "97 inch long custom made sofa in excellent condition." Yup, more quality "custom" work. " "Like new" Return it to the manufacturer as a defect then? Proof that hunting for "vintage" stuff doesn't always give you treasures! And a close up of the fabric to entice you even more! And, fodder for future years, just to prove that ugly couches are NOT all about 1975...."Brand New, 2 pcs., Couch & Love Seat. Factory Direct. $549 Buy now."

| Oh....dear....Lord- WHERE is my flame-thrower when I need it!!! For 98% of these, I'd buy them just to use the Flamethrower!!! Faron |

| Per owner: "The couch is honestly not the comfiest but I've been using it more for show." I'd be afraid to see what their comfortable furniture looks like. . . |

| just what I was hoping to find... If you're looking for a convertible couch with an appetite for cat toys, have I got the piece of furniture for you! There were so many cat toys under this couch when I cleaned it that I could have opened my own pet store! Toy mice, jingly balls, nail files, bottle caps and even one of those plastic aquarium trees -- this couch is an indiscriminate cat toy eater! So, I know what you're thinking. You're saying to yourself, I have too many cat toys in my house. Well, look no further friend, because this couch with eat many, if not all, of your cat toys. Imagine your home free of cat toy clutter once and for all. Surely this sleeper couch has attained nirvana. In addition to eating cat toys, this couch converts to a sleeper with a Sealy mattress. Freshly cleaned, stain- and odor-free. Small tear on right armrest. Please Note: A couch with this kind of stomach for cat toys is very heavy. Please be prepared to lift, remove and transport the couch yourself; I cannot offer any assistance. You will probably not loose any fingers in the maw of the couch during transport, but this is not guaranteed. |

Me- hummm, some tear, some sinking and a bit of drool, urine, sleep funk and filth...darn if only they would have stated "CUSTOM" I woulda hightailed it over there for that keeper. I dono, maybe I'd think about it cept I guess that kid comes with it and I have enough pets.

| On the topic of CL... check out this one I found in the best of Craigslist: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/van/206484440.html |
| DH is trying to figure out what is going on in here. I literally gasped at the dreamsicle colored sofa Lindac posted. And laughed until tears ran down my face at the "one seater sofa." Oh, and 50 grand for the Versace stuff? I don't think you could pay me $50k to take it...ok, well, maybe, but only if it were cash I never look at craigslist in our area. It is always horrible. Or if it is marginally decent, it is overpriced. Thanks for the laughs! |

| hhierno, I agree! I couldn't get the picture of that sofa off my mind, I remember thinking 'ughhhh I would't want to walk in to the room on a dark night and see that, it would startle me. But when viewing the dog, I thought, 'awwww he is cute'. LOL |

| Sadly, some of the couches remind me of my mom. Probably a lot being sold from family homes. Good lesson for us on what holds up. Although I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. And am guessing a lot of people are just trying to get paid to move the dumb couches. I keep seeing Elvis, Liberace, etc. with some of them. The rest make me feel creepy just thinking of what they went through. |

| OMG, you guys have me laughin so hard. I used to love Craigslist, but now I am scared to even look. Greenliving: my brother had a large chair like the last green and blue couch. When he left the dorm there was a bidding war among his friends. They all wanted the chair with arm rests wide enough to lay your lap top on one side, and your books and snack on the other. |
| All of these are awesome but Geokid, you are hilarious! Squirrel damage? Couldn't wake that guy? You had me and my DH rolling! |
