Well, if you are going for Mexican, Saltillo tiles would be appropriate.

That is not an overly large bathroom. I think using ALL of those elements could be overwhelming. Possibly go with one really WOW factor like these tiles. But keep the rest a little more neutral and jazz it up with colorful and interesting accessories like tissue box, towels.

Think thats a great size for a pebble tile floor and that it would work well with a bright southwestern style as long as you do not have a busy mix of them.

Just balance out the bold southwestern with the simpler classic southwest.

Like if you go with bright wall color, you could go with a basic but matching style wood vanity. Or balance by choosing between either a decorative mirror or attention getting vanity lights.

Granted wall color makes quite the statement so a more muted color will allow you more liberty with other room items like a tame wall color with a good-sized framed print of vivid southwest colors.

I know a lot of images get conjured up when this type of design is mentioned, but I love bright colors, and would then use a very basic wood vanity and a white toilet. ;)

There used to be someone on the thread years ago who had a bright Mexican-style house but I can't find her threads, thought maybe I could draw inspiration from her photos.

Some of these are way too big but there might be something in the photos that you could use such as a door style, flooring, mirror to make up your own composition for your small bath.

The ones that particularly strike my interest are "Rustic Powder Room by Jackson Interior Designers & Decorators Snake River Interiors" but I would have used a bright paint color on the walls,

"Eclectic Powder Room by Austin Interior Designers & Decorators Jennifer Garner, RID" is a bit over the top for my house, but I love the mirror and the red incorporated into it, and would love to spend time in that space in someone else's house

I like "Mediterranean Bathroom" but would have contrasted bright colors on the counter top and the walls.

I also like:
"Rustic Bathroom by Springfield Kitchen & Bath Fixtures Cabinet Concepts by Design" but again would have added a bright (orangish?) color to the walls.

That gives you a better idea of what I'm shooting for anyway.

SunnyCottage, is the poster you are thinking of (she went by another name, but I won't mention since she chose to change it). See her recent thread about repainting her red kitchen into a more neutral/calm white and pale green.

I like bright colors, but it is too much when used in permanent things like tile. I just ripped out red and green Saltillo tile for my master bath remodel. Once you choose these type of materials the only way to change it is by gutting the space. Much easier to work with a more neutral space and use color in paint and accessories.

Real saltillos don't work well in bathrooms. Use the porcelain look-alikes.

A rustic wood-look tile, or travertine look-alike, would be a SW style touch that doesn't scream OLÉ at you when you open the door.

If you want to leave your options for changing styles, rustic modern with some outrageous Mexican touches in wall color and accessories might do it.

Thank you lazy, now I know what my bathroom was screaming at me ... OLÉ indeed! Although the powder room is saying ... sail forth Christopher Columbus ... at least the accent tiles are saying that ... this will also be gutted next.

Are you saying travertine is the best type? I haven't researched tiles much yet, other than trying to figure out what look I want, and we don't have tiles elsewhere in our house.

Real saltillos are a soft-fired, porous clay and they absorb water even if you try to seal them. And they are thick and irregular and need a wide grout joint which is a dirt trap.

Sealed and waxed in a living area they are fabulous, but I've had them in bathrooms and they suck.
