Window treatment for 2 adjoining patio doors

I need to cover two sliding glass patio doors that are next to each other in my family room. There is about a 10-inch space between the two doors. My decor will revolve around new dark brown transitional reclining sofa and chair. I am not fond of vertical blinds and would like suggestions for alternate window treatments. The rest of my home will have white faux wood 2-inch horizontal blinds. What if I did a curtain rod with a neutral colored casual drape? Should I run the rod across both sets of doors? Any suggestions??

I think I'd probably put 2 rods to help break it up a bit. I know you said you weren't interested in blinds, but I'm in love with some vertical sheers I saw at Calico Corners. They looked just like drapes when closed and didn't look like the typical vertical blinds at ALL. They are very elegant looking and with an exterior mount, they'd look lovely with what you've described.

Do you need these to be functional, or are they just to soften the space? Any pics?

What about something like these sliding panels from JCPenney.com

Here is a link that might be useful: Sliding Panels
