Too many greens?? Pics

| I have been inspired by the porches I have seen on this forum. Our porch has, up to now, had a table for eating, some old uncomfortable hand me down chairs that no one ever sat on, a stand up lamp that always blew down and finally broke, a table in the middle I did my bouquets for market on, and the clippings always scattered all ove the floor, and one wall with my piles of buckets that I cut the flowers into.
NO MORE!! I moved the flower stuff to a work space in the garage, and bought a couch, a chair and ottoman, and an outdoor stand up lamp that has not blown down. And I am loving this space. I feel as tho we added another room to the house, and I love reading out there in the cool air. I can't wait to have some friends over.
But I think I have made my usual mistake. Too many greens! The table and chairs are a blue green, the couch material mostly a yellow green, the chair material is lime green, the other chair is a different green, and to top it off, the lampshade is "spring green."
What mostly catches my eye is the disparity of the blue green and the yellow greens. Do I paint the table and chairs? And what color- a brown, black (couldn't that get hot?), or what? And the door is dull and peeling on the other side. Do I paint that the same color, or maybe black? I have stared at this to the point where I don't know what to think. And we are going to need some roll down shades- what color for them?
Can these greens all live together peacefully, or do I need to do something?

OT, my flowers on the way to market. We are gradually painting the buckets, because the kitty litter doesn't seem to add to the ambiance of selling flowers!

| Very nice porch and colors! I think I'd try adding some cushions to the table seating to see if that pulls them into the mix better. If not, I see you're up for painting. I've seen similar sets in a deep green (more of a cool, not yellow green) with black antiquing. Very pretty. |

| barb5- A lovely porch, those brick floors and creamy white walls are a great combo with the furniture. Since you don't mind considering painting, I would paint the table and chairs either the muted brick red or the yellow (I think it's yellow, hard to tell on my laptop monitor) from your striped couch, that coupled with the brick, beautiful brown wicker and creamy white walls would be knock out. Also, those peonies are stunning, I wish you sold at our farmer's market, we have good veggies and Amish baked goods, but no people selling cut flowers. Good luck- sandyponder |

| On my monitor, the wicker set (lovely!) and the lamp shade work together, but the dining table & director's chair do not .... I would eliminate the director's chair & paint the other set either a weathered black to match the base of the lamp or a creamy color to match the stripes in the couch. Very pretty room - love the floors! |

| Ditto Jen9. I'll add the flowers are beautiful though! I can almost smell them! |

| Here are some things to look at. Green and aqua is beautiful together, so worked that a bit. Thought it would be easier to just pick up some metal furniture in different finishes, but wasn't really finding the selection. Cinnibar is a great color with the greens and aquas. I like it with the brown finish on your porch. The right sublte earthy, mossy type of distressed green might be pretty, too, with some cushions.
The black feels a bit harsh/stark. Trying some cushions:

| The dining table reads almost bluish on my monitor. That would probably be the easiest to change, by painting it. |

| Wow, thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm glad I'm not crazy for thinking these greens don't go together. Sandyponder, I have been drooling over the pics of your porch. Just beautiful! I really like your suggestion of painting the table and chairs a brick red as the door is that color, and the swatch of material on the couch, that is being made into pillows is that color too. It could look really good. Jen9- I probably will lose the director's chair. I would love to find a narrow table to put in that space to set serving dishes on and stuff. Justgotabme, thanks for the compliment on the flowers. The car does smell really nice when I am driving to the market. SH, you are the best with your photoshopping! I agree, the black feels harsh. But I do like the darker brown that is similar to the tone of the wicker. It seems to go so much better than the blue green. That is what I had been thinking of doing and it is really great to be able to visualize it. And those aqua pillows look really nice too. I wouldn't have thought of that color. So, I am definately going to paint the table and chairs. SH, is it possible to do them in a brick red to compare to the brown? I don't have any idea of how to do it, so if it isn't, I completely understand. |

| Trying more of a grayed black, with the silver aging, maybe they call it an aged pewter. And your red fabric:

| What if the metal were painted a bronzy-brown in the same family as your wicker? Or a little darker -- the same bronze as the lantern on the wall in the first photo? Also, how about a nice piece of artwork for over your settee? Something floral, maybe? An unframed canvas?

| SH, thank you so much!! I am liking the brown, the second picture in your 8:54 post, and Rustoleum has a nutmeg color that may be close. I do also like idea of the brick red, but it would have to be just the right color and that may be much more difficult to find. Rustoleum doesn't seem to have what I would need.I think I am going to pick up a couple of cans of brown and try patches on the chairs. I really appreciate your helping me visualize this- it has made me eager to start spraying. Now if the rain would only stop! Mclarke, you are absolutely right about something over the couch. I've just been concentrating all the greens, that my thinking just hasn't gotten that far. |

| You're welcome : ) Glad it helped. You're right, the brick would be a tough one to get right. It was hard to mix, too. Please show us when you're done! |

| I'm always looking for the easy route. Lynette Jennings said that all greens go together, and all peaches go together. So, that being said, I think all you need is a rug or painting or something that ties all those greens together. Perhaps find a cheap sisal-type rug that you can stencil some pattern (floral perhaps?) on it with all the leftover paints you have, that would tie all the greens together. At least that's what I'd do. I hate to repaint as it seems like admitting defeat. :) |

| Went out looking for a blue-green rug to tie the current chairs in. They were still way blue, maybe moreso in the pic? Anyway, this Mystical Garden rug looked really pretty, picking up your aqua and burgundy. Though you may not be at all interested in a rug out there : ) With a bronze-y brown paint on the chairs.

| SH, any rug would have to be water proof. The porch gets driving rain in it, these days on a daily basis. And also dirty, I am sweeping the floor more often than I like. But hanging something big like that on the wall might be interesting...... Holleygarden, I wish all greens went together! But I think I am proving that they don't. I have made this same mistake in my LR: rug is blue green and curtains yellow green. I went through gazillions of material swatches to uphoster the couch with, and it was very difficult to find something. Finallly went with a yellow. The LR walls are yellow and I am afraid the couch will meld into the wall, but at that point, I had decided it would be easier to repaint then to find something different for the couch. Beware of the greens! |
