for MCM lovers -- Palm Springs tour

I couldn't make it to Modernism Week in Palm Springs this year due to schedule conflicts, but I took a trip out there recently to do some reconnaissance - we're re-doing our exterior and I needed some inspiration. Going to the desert in late June was definitely intense, but it was so refreshingly quiet and peaceful (even with 110 degree heat!)

There were a number of open homes that we looked at, and we toured all the classic MCM neighborhoods -- Twin Palms, Vista Las Palmas etc. There are too many cool homes to count, but I thought I'd share some of my iphone photos for those that enjoy MCM architecture.

Sigh, love it. We go to Palm Spring often, and I love the architecture! They're building a bunch of new homes around with the 'mcm' vibe.

I love them! Thanks for posting them! Are you looking to buy out there? The mcm architecture is amazing. I go a couple times a year as my father has a small place down there. He almost bought the most amazing William Cody home in Rancho Mirage (they rejected his offer, but ended up selling it for less). When we were looking with the realtor, he took us by the Elvis house (which I believe is for sale) and the Neutra house. If you get a chance, they are worth seeing (although the Neutra house is harder to see).

These are great. There is only one house pictured that I find odd, and the climate looks amazing.

palimpsest, is the house you find odd the chalet-like "Swiss Miss" house (the one with the inverted V at the main entry)? I wasn't a fan either, but apparently it's a rather famous house -- there are about 10-15 of them in PS. The grass is the fake green stuff too -- it looked like Astroturf in person.

rockybird, we'd buy something if we could find the right house. We definitely have our hands full with our current remodel, though, so we're not seriously looking to add more to our plates. Maybe in a couple years...

Speaking of Neutra homes, a time capsule Neutra just sold in our area and we had the chance to tour it. It was the first Neutra house I'd been in. The house needs an overhaul, but check out this view out the kitchen window. I couldn't stop drooling...

You do stalk Christopher Kennedy, don't you? He will be in Vegas next week, it was such a pleasure meeting him last year, and looking forward to it again. Here's a link to his website, lots of eye candy and inspiration there.

The Modernism Week Chris Kennedy Compound is on the cover of Luxe, I heard. (current issue?) Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy next week, I don't think it's on the East Coast, but I'm sure you've seen it already out there.
