Paint or not...ceiling fan blades?

| I'm slowly trying to finish up my kitchen and finally got my DH to put up the new ceiling fan last weekend. I'm not sure I like the wood look on the fan blades and am debating painting them white. The old fan that I had up had white blades and I really loved them.
My son has my camera this morning so I can't take a current photo of the island and fan. We hadn't planned to replace the countertops, but now I think we are. So probably the wood top on the island will be gone bye-bye. I think I'm also going to get new bar stools.
Opinions please...paint the blades white or leave them?
Here's a photo of the fan (I hate those bright white bulbs!).

| Yes, paint the blades white! Do not change the wood on the Island, even if you change the other counters! It's gorgeous... Joann |

| Yes. They'd go nicer in your kitchen. I have a ceiling fan in our guest room with white blades that I want to paint ORB! You can get replacement blades at the big box stores...might be easier that way. |

| Did you check the other side of the blades, sometimes they are white. I think the wood looks fine but white would be nice. If you don't like your bulbs in your fan you can get compact fluorescent bulbs that are round and look a lot like regular bulbs. We have them in our ceiling fans. I think we got them at Home Depot or Lowes. |

| Your kitchen is so pretty. It has tons of personality. And are those crystal balls hanging from your fan? I love them. White fan blades would look really nice in your kitchen. And I know you didn't ask, but I also think that the wood counter top on your island looks very nice. |

I painted the oak fan blades in our bedroom the wall color, which is very similar to your wall color. I did this thinking it would be temporary - we loved it and kept it for 3 years. Just last weekend we moved that fan into my office and got a new fan for the bedroom. I thought I would have to paint the blades white, but they also look great in the office, which is predominately white. I think the color is just so subtle, it blends. Just a thought....... |

| If you do decide to get rid of your island top, I'll buy it from you! It looks just about the size we need. Email me if you are serious! |

| I wouldn't change the countertop...it goes well with the floors. I'm going to say a big yes to the fan blades (they actually sell replacement blades for cheap, but I guess painting is cheaper if you have the supplies!)....Definitely white. |

| White. I went to take mine down to paint white and they were white on the other side so I ended up just having to flip them over. |

| Wow, overwhelming "yes" on the white! Thank you everyone! I decided to go for it and painted them this afternoon. I used Krylon spray paint and I really should have put primer on them first. I lost count of how many coats of paint I sprayed on them. I think it looks so much better now. What do ya'll think??
barb5, the pull chains do have faceted crystal balls on them. There's also a prism hanging from each arm on the light fixture. Here's a close-up photo showing them.
I'm surprised that many of you said keep the wood on the island! When we decided to put an island in, I couldn't get a top to match my countertops because I've had them ever since dinosaurs roamed. LOL! The wood was just a desperate measure to have a top for the island. I've always thought I should have all the counters the same, but maybe I need to rethink that. |

| The blades look nice. Have you considered different light covers? With the white blades I think a plainer frosted white would look good. |
