Chalk paint washes vs distressing

I like my turquoise chalk painted cabinet but I'm thinking of changing it a little because of a beautiful picture I saw on Pinterest of a duck's egg blue china cabinet with a gray wash.
I found some pre made chalk paints on Ebay (Sea Girl Paint) and bought several different colors to experiment with.
Have any of y'all done a way or distressed, and how are they different and was it easy to do?

I went online and researched washes and I think I might try that.

I was really hoping for pictures as I'm getting ready to paint a little end table/plant stand and looking at options. Can you share a link regarding the washed furniture?

Here is a good article. It starts off talking about stenciling which I'm not going to do, but the second half has some good tips on wash techniques.
I plan to practice on the back of the china cabinet and hopefully I'll have the technique down by the time I get to the front.
