Transition between dining room/living room

I have been a lurker here for a very long time and have enjoyed reading about all of the decorating questions and the many different viewpoints. This is my first post asking for help... I am going to get laminate flooring for my living room and hallway. The only thing holding me up is what to do about the transition between the dining room and living room - the floor curves. What would you suggest here? How would it look to extend the laminate into the dining room as far as the cabinet in the picture. That would eliminate the curve. I don't mind the curve if there was some kind of curved transition strip but I don't know of any. There is a rubber strip there now, but I don't think it would look good with the wood laminate. Thanks for any advice.

Can you take it straight through the dining room and just leave the kitchen floor in the vinyl?

The installer should be able to do curves. Do you want the curves to stay? I have an arch rounded curve on the hearth of my fireplace and they did a great job on it.

I know what you mean abut the transition strips. All the laminate that I've seen have proprietary transition strips to transition from one type of flooring to another. I would make a straight line from the points on the door jambs where the carpet an linoleum now meet.

Have you considered using the laminate in your kitchen and breakfast area too? I have it in mine and love it. It's very practical and easy to keep clean, and would give you a continuous flow.

I have sort of the same thing but without the curve. Just a straight line down then cut at a 45 degree angle to the wall. If you think that might look a little *off*, then perhaps you could either take it straight from the wall down (past the curve) and finish with an L to the other wall. Or - take it from the end of the cabinet to the wall. I can tell from your tiles that that almost lines up exactly. Except I'm not sure if that would cut off your kitchen area too much. Play around with a large measuring stick or two.
