I would put a vinyl roller shade up behind the blind so you can use the blind for light control during the day and pull the vinyl shade at night for privacy, and then lower the bamboo to hide the vinyl.

That's what I was thinking too Annie. Those windows face west and the sun can be pretty intense in the late afternoon.

It just occurred to me that mini blinds may even work better for that as I can control the light better. They also take up less room than the roller shades so I'll have room for the valance. (and roller shades have that annoying habit of rolling back up when pulled down)

I just put up some bamboo shades to add texture to a living room window and to hide the roller shade behind. I have a bamboo shade with a liner in a different room, and it's really annoying. The liner is fabric and the same manufacturer of the shade, but it always looks messy and misaligned.

I also made a faux roman shade for my kitchen and just left the roller blind behind it. So I'm a fan of that option.

Thanks noellabelle. Mine didn't pull up evenly after adding the liner and the extra thickness made more bulk when pulled up. I like the roller idea because there wouldn't be another cord, and the blinds idea because then I could filter out the afternoon sun even more. Decisions, decisions.

If the cord is a problem, you could go with a cordless honeycomb. Probably more $ though!
