Paint bathroom vanity?

We have oak vanities, woodwork and doors throughout the house. For the most part, I like it. It's all in good condition and isn't builder-grade orange oak. The exception is the master bath vanity.

The vanity is solid and in good shape, but it's ugly. The finish on the tub surround is chipped. I would like to do something with the vanity and tub surround, but don't know what would look ok with wood trim. Paint it white or use a gel strain?

I haven't been able to find pictures online. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!
