Good luck, I think the jute rugs are a great choice--just ordered one for my living room and love it. Much softer than I expected. In fact our cats spend a nontrivial time on it, just lounging about. It's hilarious to watch.

I would be concerned that mine would think the rug was an adjunct to their scratching posts. Any problems with that?

Linelle, that's what is so amazing. We already have several sisal rugs which the cats really go to town scratching, and I was worried that the jute would be even more alluring. However, not so at all. We surmise that since it's so very soft, they think it's a cat mattress. Yes, a room size cat mattress we installed just for their comfort. We can't help but laugh as they streeeeetch and lounge and literally fall over as soon as they step onto the rug. It's like kittie ambien down there.

Oh, and FYI the sisal rugs the cats do work over have been indestructible. Truly amazing, they don't show any unraveling and they are really inexpensive IKEA area rugs.

Now with respect to Jute, I'd make sure that to choose whatever is more durable. I once had a PB Jute rug (no wool or chenille), and it disintegrated very quickly without any heavy use. Basically, there was a ton of fiber underneath the rug really quickly.
