Several years ago I started collecting white ironstone but decided I already had too many collections so have sold the few pieces I had. I thought ironstone would go well with my other vintage dishes and they did but there is a limit to how much one can display, use, and store.

Do you intend to only collect vintage or antique ironstone or will you buy new as well? That decision will help you decide where to look. I used to yard sale a lot (addicting hobby!) so found most of my pieces there. Thrift stores, antique shops, and many online venues are sources.

Good pieces to start with are whatever you like the best and are relatively easy to find. I love a display of ironstone pitchers altho a mixed display with large and small pieces is also very nice.

I agree with luckygal that narrowing your search would be the first place to start. My collection started when my mother wanted to replace her ironstone dishes so I bought her replacement set and took hers in trade. I am not a collector of things by nature so I buy new and old but only things I really enjoy or that I will use.

I am really interested in vintage ironstone rather than new. I have purchased a few pieces on Etsy and another piece locally in an antique shop. I love the pitchers but would also other pieces as well. Thanks for the links luckygal.
