It's such a statement piece, all the other items in the room must support it's style. Those chandeliers have been around for a long time.

Depending on your room, I might consider a newer style chandelier to make the statement.

Why couldn't whatever you blow on it with be aimed downwards towards a cloth that gets washed and whatever else get cleaned afterwards?

You basically put a towel under it, turn it off, and then use a cleaning solution that basically drips off the dust and any grime that accumulates. This is sold in lighting stores and online, but DIY solutions exist.

I'm not missing my crystal chandelier. I do like that second one, though.

thx for posting pic! yes, true, cleaning it would be a pain-- i have a very simple chandy now so it's easy to clean... i am wanting something bigger and the color was appealing with this one and it's not so traditional, but am unsure whether i would actually like a bouquet shape in person hanging from the ceiling... will probably end up going traditional tho...

Boy, sure glad I read this thread, just put up a capiz shell chandy, and never really thought about how to clean it!

This is the way I do mine to keep from popping the bulbs if they are warm, which it will do. I turn mine off, tape masking tape over the switch so in my forgetfulness I do not turn it on. I let it cool down for several hours. I cover my DR table with a clear shower curtain that I abandoned with the frameless shower doors (I like see thru so I can see Psycho as he approaches and run like Hades). Next I really spray it very well with Perfect Glass and allow it to drip on the shower curtain until I see no more drops. I keep the light switch taped while I gently pat with paper towels but never scrub. I leave the light switch taped up for 24 more hours. I remove the tape, the shower curtain. Voila! Shiny brite like Christmas.
