Blue goes great with gold. Maybe paint the walls a nice blue or a deeper brown and put blue accents around.

Does it look gold in this pic? It's really more of a medium brown color in real life.. I guess with a bit of gold undertone. I do think blue might look good, though..

I would think painting (blue would be good) would be great, and then if you can find one, add a patterned rug to pull the colors together.
