Do you have pics of the room and the bed that you can post to give us an idea of what you're working with?

I don't have a room I can post, we will be selling the house we are in and moving into a new one. Here is a picture of the bed. I would be just getting the 4 poster bed minus the canopy.

I would select a medium colored (like honey) wood to go with it.

Do you know what styles make your heart sing? Cottage, modern, traditional, old world rustic, etc.? If you don't know, spend some time going through decorating books and magazines. I rip out photos from magazines, save other photos on the computer, and purchase decor books at the used bookstore. When I look at my collection I see trends toward certain styles, colors, and looks. That gives me a roadmap for fixing up a room.

A black bedframe is a classy start. You'll have fun decorating in your new place!

I have a black bed frame (headboard & foot board) and a mix of furnishings - nothing matching! I have 2 pieces that don't match the bed or each other but are both black, one piece that has a stone top with fabric skirt, one piece painted red, a wicker bench with iron legs and a fabric pad, a big upholstered chair..... sounds awful, doesn't it??!!

Point is, you have lots of possibilities but need to decide what kinds of pieces you need in addition to what color or wood type they should be. Do you need dressers? Bookcases? Seating? Nightstands? My bed is massive in scale like yours and our bedroom is large enough to allow breathing space for other furnishings. How large is your new room going to be - do you know yet? If you will have a small(ish) room with that large bed, you'll need to be careful with scale to make sure you meet your storage needs.
