Anyone have a claw foot tub? Question about them.

I love the look of the new claw foot tubs with silver footing, they are gorgeous. I am considering one for my bathroom. I went to a showroom today, got in one and was disappointed how narrow it was. It might be nice to just soak and relax, but I take a lot of baths because I don't wash my hair everyday and I just don't know if this would be comfortable. If you want to shave your legs, etc there's just not a lot of room to move. I'm an average sized woman.

Does anyone have one to tell me your thoughts? Maybe I'm just not use to them. I love the look, but don't want to be uncomfortable. Thoughts? Thanks

There are a lot of different aspects that make a tub comfy or uncomfy. The length, width, depth, slope of the back, material is it made of, and placement of the faucets. The biggest is not always the best --- you can feel like you are floating in one that is too long.

So you need to shop around to find one that is best for you.

The one you tried out may have been designed to go in the space of a standard 30" wide tub. With the large rolled edge on a clawfoot, this could make it rather narrow.

We have a repro that is very wide. In a former home, we had a vintage-1914 clawfoot that was roomy.

Look around some more at both vintage and reproduction tubs. You probably haven't found the right one yet. They are out there!
