Floor tile shape and overall style

I'm remodeling my bathroom but I'm guessing tile shape can influence any room.

My bath is 5x10, tub in the alcove, so effectively 5x7 tile floor. My style is Transitional. I plan to have 4x4" tiles in the shower, stained vanity (shaker/slab) and carrara counter. The lav faucet, and as yet unchosen light fixture, will probably be the most contemporary looking things in the bathroom (at least to me).

The floor tiles I've been looking at are 12x12 or 13x13. I want a mid-gray, not too much movement. If I open up my options to include 12x24, I have a lot more from which to choose. I'm wondering if a rectangular shape is overtly contemporary, or will no one notice? :) Most everything is rectified and there will be minimal grout lines, which I'm not overly concerned about from a cleaning standpoint.

So, does shape matter?
