Should I paint my front door?

Hello, I have a large double front door with glass and the doors are stained. Over time the stain really does not hold up and I have had to have someone come, take it down, work on it, and restain it. It gets the hot afternoon sun and sometimes sideways rain and such. This is just going to keep happening until the door finally warps. It was really expensive. So should I have the door painted instead? Would that be a tougher finish instead of the stain only?

If I do paint the door, can I just paint the outside and leave the inside stained?

Have you used sikkens as your finish? It is a marine finish and stands up well to the weather.

I also have a stained door, mine is fiberglass, not real wood, it is not supposed to warp. We built this house five years ago and I have stained it once and have retouched it twice. It is facing south and gets a lot of sun. If I werent trying to sell the house and were going to stay in it I would definately paint it. I used the recommended products and still have an issue of fading.

i had a south facing stained wooden front door at a previous house of ours and i swore i would never have another south facing stained front door, even tho i love the way they look!!!

i tried the hardiest and best of all finishes, including marine, and none of it could hold up very long to the sun/elements. and as pretty as a beautifully stained wood door is, a stained door in need of maintainance is equally unattractive!!
