Shudders?

So I have wondered about getting shudders for the house. (sorry for all clutter on porch and yard, been doing gardening and cleaning out shop). We do plan to change out the doorway and glass pieces, this one had gold in it and we don't do gold. I would prefer something more rustic and if we did shutters they would need to be a rustic style also. Just not so gold, stained glass....fancy. We are laid back so casual.

Shudders might cause the siding to fall off, so I wouldn't get them, kinda cool as the notion is!

However, shutters would look great on your house, I think, against the brick. The one window to the right, immediately next to your porch, is going to be trouble, though, because of the too-narrow-for-a-shutter space to its left, facing it.

The slant and size of your roof is really nice, I think! Wow.

Thanks Tib! I had thought the same thing about that same window. I also was not sure if I would have to put shutters on the large window with the siding around it. I just feel like the front of the house needs something We have some gardening...but sadly I kill everything. :(

I like this door I attached and think the door would be a good way of adding color.

Shutters could be tricky because you do not have enough space on the one side on the window next to the porch...which is probably why previous owners have not put them in. Window boxes might look nice, with low plantings in front of the windows and some taller plantings in between the windows...this will dress up the windows and and deflect attention from them not having shutters. Pretty house!

You don't need shutters around the porch window. First of all, it's too big, no shutters would fit. Second, it's recessed, so shutters wouldn't serve any purpose. Third, there's enough going on in the recess, with furniture, a new great door, and hopefully you'll have 3 topiaries like in your picture! (Psst, you could do artificial ones...)

You could, though, enhance the moulding around the windows to give them a little more oomph.

I love black front doors. I think they're elegant when done correctly, and with the side window panels, I think you can do it.

Maybe also paint the window trim and grids (facing outward, of course!) and the one column black, then paint the white wall of the porch a rich blue or some other rich color?

I too do not have a green thumb. Something I really regret. I so envy those who do.

What zone are you in, and which way does the front of your house face?

Your house does not need shutters. There is enough going on without them. My house has self-quoins and an ornamental door similar to what you have and I did not want to add shutters to the mix. Therefore, making the eye have to stay so busy it was unsettling. LOL.

To make a long story short, I don't think you need shutters since you would not be able to place them on the one window and it would show off the asymmetry. Hope this makes sense.

I disagree, I think your house DOES need shutters, at least on the windows on the brick. Either that or new trim around the windows, they look unfinished or something. I guess you would just have one shutter on that window next to the porch since there isn't enough room.

Love the door you posted...think it will look wonderful and make a big impact!

No shutters. It would just look too odd with that one shutter missing (window next to porch that others mentioned) IMHO.

I agree that you could beef up the trim, if you want to do that.

It is a very pretty house! A couple of small flowering trees out front would be lovely and might satisfy your need for change. I like the idea of a new door, too.

NO shutters on that house! That new door would be very nice though :)

I agree with a new door or fix up the current one. The landscaping is in need of repair. It is disjointed looking. Should you add a couple ornamental trees and do some classic symmetrical landscaping, the new door would make your house look nice. Check at your paint store with the decorator to suggest colors for doors, windows, trim and the landscape gardenshop for shrubs and trees. It's a beautiful home. Keep it up. It will make you proud.

Something like a 4 inch trim around the windows would make a huge difference. It would take the windows from basic to grand. No to shutters or shudders!

    Another vote for no shutters.
