curtain panels - any opinions?

Found this idea on BH&G and really like the idea to add a simple window treatment in my LR and DR. I think they have used medallion post tiebacks to hold the curtains and simple self loops of the curtain fabrics.

I'd like to find less expensive post tiebacks - any ideas?

I want to add some softness around my large (old) window frames, a little color and/or texture, and fabric to help with the noise of all the original hardwood floors in my 1910 bungalow. I like cottage style, but not all white and I have mostly antiques in both rooms. I have to keep my mini blinds up at the windows for privacy most importantly and I'm o.k. with that. At some point I hope to change the blinds for something that looks better and is of higher quality - but these blinds came with the house.

Would like to hear any opinions you have about this simple window treatment. Thanks! ~Teresa

I was just looking at another site with a picture of curtains with these "pins". I think it is a great look and works well if you don't want a rod running all the way across. Not sure if it will be less expensive though, I bet they add up.

You can use oversize cabinet knobs instead of the pricey medallions. All you need to mount them is a hanger bolt. Most cabinet hardware uses size 8/32 screws, so you would purchase the same size hanger bolts.

Thanks for that good information, Woodsy1 - I had not thought about cabinet knobs. I did picture coat rack pegs that I could paint and screw into the walls. I have 9' ceilings and tall windows, but there is still room above the window trim to put the hangers and thus lengthen the panels.

Three windows side-by-side comprise the front window and there are two separate side windows on the other wall in the living room. The dining room has another three windows on the front and and two side-by-side windows on another wall; a large opening connects the LR and DR so both get a sufficient light. Originally, glass French doors connected the LR and DR, but those were taken out when I bought the house. I know it would look beautiful, but I wonder how practical it would be to live with those French doors in the way.
