Thoughts on clear shade fixtures for dining

Hi,

I posted this question in the lighting forum but did not get much input. It is a decorating as much as lighting question, so here goes:

I am renovating a modest cape cod home with 1 fabulous feature -- an amazing floor to ceiling bay window in the main living/dining area. It faces north and overlooks a gorgeous lake.

This bay is large enough for my dining table and chairs -- transitional cherry top table with black metal base and modernish black Windsor chairs.

Ceilings are low. The bay is huge. The table fits perfectly, What light -- chandalier, pendants? Will provide the best light for dining and working at the table without competing with the lake view?

I like those clear glass pendants but the quality of the light seems cold and harsh, particularly I front of a north window. But then again, this would allow a translucent view of the lake.

Or a simple, airy black chandalier?

Any thoughts? The space is not rehabbed yet so I hesitate to send a pic.

Thanks
Shadey
