If by "pictures" you mean family photos, I'd say none.

If you mean artwork, then I would say just a minimum so it doesn't look too bare.

Artwork. Should something be on every wall, or just the long walls?

I've been going through these pictures and my resolve to declutter is weakening.

One thing that makes it hard for me is that I had to buy a frame not long ago (I didn't have the right kind) and the prices for just a frame at Michaels and Hobby Lobby just floored me.

At least one large one over the sofa or an arrangement of smaller ones. I love art on a short wall like to the right left of an entrance. A few more on any blank spaces that would accommodate it. Don't be too hasty, you may regret getting rid of all of them.

The house we bought had few pictures, but they were the right size. In fact, I measured them for future reference because I am crazy like that.

Even with all of our decluttering talk, I agree about holding onto art. Even basic art adds up fast and not easy to find pieces, for me, that I love. You don't know what will work in you next space. If nothing else, you may want them just for the frames. I agree-- frames are expensive!

Use them in interesting places, the end of a hallway, the wall facing the stairway as you're going up, a mirror by the front door. You are still living in the home, and you want it to look and feel that way.
