How can I clean a yellowed marble lamp?

I am thinking about keeping a couple of marble lamps from a relative's estate. Only problem is they've yellowed. Is there a safe way to clean them? I am assuming they're marble and not some other material. Has anyone ever had success with yellowed marble? Thanks!

I would be thinking that what has yellowed is a wax or other finish (shellac -- would they do that?) put over the marble. I would look for a marble restoration service in your area and have them take a look at them. They can probably figure out what was most likely applied and how to most safely remove the coating.
