You need to do a "search", there is a thread about wall nooks...much of that advise fits here too. Other than that I think you need to find larger pieces--vs your collections. They don't work in this large space.

Wow is it me? Or is your pic like an Escher? On the bottom the wall where the nook is clearly goes behind the piano, but up top they look like they're in the same plane....and above the piano, there's an opening...is that to another room? and is the wall angled? It's very confusing.

IAC, you have volumes of space...cubic footage...there and to make it look right, you are going to need very large scale pieces. Otherwise, even grouped together, your small pieces are getting lost.

Look at houzz.com and search on nice in living room and you'll get some ideas...vase with flowers, sculpture, large piece of art. You may want to paint the inside of the niche a different color too to help emphasize and furnish it.

Annie, I believe those are stairs behind the short wall.

Like Annie suggested, I think one large item would look best with you current wall arrangement.

Yep, you need larger items. The small ones are getting lost and look too busy.

Annie, I'm with you, in the photo the room is totally Escher-esque. I thought the niche was on the same plane as the grouping of three photos, but then I looked at the floor.

To be honest, I would dry wall over it. Then get one large or a few substantial pieces for the wall.

If you want to keep it, I would look for a tall sculpted piec of art to fill the space.

Large enough to fill up at least 2/3rds of the height...could be more. So if the niche is 48" high then something at least 32" high. It can be a sculpture...

I like the "fill it 2/3" rule...would you keep the walls by the niche empty or put large scale artwork on those too?

I'd certainly start out with leaving the side walls blank...less is more, esp when you want to draw attention to the new dramatic piece of art.

I like the mirror idea with a tall candle stick or flowers. Nothing on the two angle walls.

WOW the angle of the new pic really shows me how I was not seeing your space AT ALL!! I had no idea the piano was on a pony wall...Thanks for clarifying. A friend of mine put clear floating shelves in her niches so she could feature more than one item.

I would put one large piece in the niche (as already suggested - either painting or sculpture or tall mirror) & see if anything else is needed.

All other objects are too small for the wall, I think they would look better grouped together somewhere else - maybe the wall in entry, either left or right, or other space in the house.

Hi, yeslek306. I think because that little niche is right at the entry I would put a big mirror in there, and put hooks up under the vent to hang coats, purses, gloves and such.

I can't tell you what to get as it must reflect your own interests. If you look around your house you probably have something that will fill that space for now. Your tallest vase perhaps. A plate on a stand, something to hang from the top, garden sculpture.... Almost anything of correct size would be an improvement. Then you can take your time finding something that really suits you.
