Replacing Windows with Lanterns

So here is a (very poor and not quite right in scale) mock up of the ocean-facing elevation. For those of you with very delicate aesthetic sensibilities, I do apologize for the bastardization of the house. If it is too terribly distressing, do avert your eyes.

For those still with me...

In order to offset the bulk of the new third floor dormer, I was trying to beef up the middle portion. On the mock up I tried out round windows. However, they will cost about 10k plus installation. I am also worried that I won't find a pleasing way to block light from them.

So, I was thinking of lanterns instead. Over sized ones. What do you think of these? Any other ideas? Thanks all...

And, Zinc or copper? No other visible light on this elevation.
