I learned something very interesting by accident

Yesterday, our counters were installed. We have a very large island (10' x 3') with a completely clear surface (no appliances, no sink). Just "plain", I looked at it and thought -- we need some color, or a bowl, or something. Then the countertop people gave me a cutting board/trivet measuring about 16" square that they had made for me out of the remnants of my slab. Even though it's the same color (white) as the counter, just adding that small amount of "depth" gave it some character and made a huge difference in how the island looks. Nothing mind-blowing, just thought it was interesting. I'll take pictures later to show you what I mean.
