Historic Woolworth Mansion burns

They say about half the mansion is damaged. So far they don't know the cause but they don't suspect arson. So sad. Ironic though as it had burned before and was rebuilt with a lot of fireproof materials including a marble staircase. But so much of the interior woodwork and details are damaged or destroyed.

That's sad. I hate to see a grand old beauty succumb to age or destruction. I'm hoping the Careys have the means and connections to do a decent restoration.

They probably do, provided it was insured...

One of the news photos showed that some of the plaster work in the ceiling seems to have survived, so they should be able to copy it to finish it. But it also showed the chandelier on the ground completely charred. Not good.

Oh, how sad. Even if it can be restored to look the same, it's still tragic that the fine, old originals would be lost.
