Here is my red dining room. It started with one sw red, then I went darker in flat (that did not work!) so I ended up doing a faux glaze with three different colors that I concocted from all my failed colors.

samat40, I love the texture on your walls. How did you do the faux glaze? I would love to try your technique!

Thanks!! First of all-- the walls already had a hand-troweled texture but this gave me smooth areas and then a swirl of the trowelling. Hard to paint around. Anyway, I primed in gray, then painted a bit with the SW Flower Pot in the satin. I thought it was too orangy, so I got the next darker shade on the same strip in a flat. That looked awful, since all the places where I cut in had a different sheen. Soooo, I went to Home Depot and got a quart of Behr in a slightly redder shade in satin and some glaze. Did one coat using an X pattern with a 3 inch brush, random and overlapping. Then decided to do a another coat with a lighter terra cotta that I had rejected from another room, then went back over with the darker red, mixed with some gold acrylic paint I had. All in all, the different shades just blend enough to give the color some nice depth. I mixed the first two coats one part paint to 2 parts glaze. The last one I did 1 part to three parts.

annkathryn - I love your red, but I can't find "Ralph Lauren barn red." Is there any chance it goes by a different name? Thanks...

And though my shower area is so tiny that I almost can't take a picture, here is a link for what I do have....It's painted in a Behr Color from their Interiors brochure--Current jam. I had it mixed in American Traditions paint at Lowes.

bloomwherplanted - I'm so sorry, I just now saw your question. Here's the closest match I can find to the RL Barn Red (see link below). Also, I still have the can with the formula on it if you're interested.

I looked on the can and it seems to be Ralph Lauren Oar Lock, not Barn Red. The two colors look identical ot me on the paint matching website.

I'm looking for a rust/brown/red does anyone have a color like that?

  • southernheart

Cranberry Zing (Glidden)...my favorite red in different types of lighting. I've changed the interior in the past few years, but still use it mainly as an accent color (powder room, bookcase interiors), and still love it! Yes, that's me and my sons, about eight or nine years ago...time sure flies!
