Color for walls with cherry floors?

| Hi, I'm new here, but love decorating and like to tweek until everything is perfect. My question is, we're moving into a new home with Cherry hardwood floors. The formal living and foyer are one huge room with a step up into the formal dining room. I am looking for a color that you all think would go well and maybe a shade lighter or darker in the formal dining room to compliment. There are floor to ceiling windows in the formal living and 1 window in the formal dining, it's a pretty open plan in there.
Any advice would be great appreciated!
