I think it would look wonderful in dark red. I also think an eggplant color would be really special.

Perhaps its the picture shading, but my concern is that a dark color is not going to pop, but rather look like a dark hole. Not sure what color the house is, but consider a rich gold (Benjamin Moore Cork) or a pale sage green.
