Help What do I do with my Eighties COntemporary..

THis is the entyway to my Passive Solar 1980's home. It needs updating but I do not now where to start. Any suggestions on this entryway? I can't afford to redo the tile. Mostly paint and color suggestions..It tends to be dark when not lit with the overhead light.
