Growing media for paperwhites?

I have some old school days of Christmas tumblers, and I want to put a single bulb in each glass. I feel like the bare bulb and roots need to be covered some how. I have grown them naked in a hurricane type vase and that looks nice, but these glasses call for a less spare look - don't they? Would a pile of fake snow look funny? Should I put a mound of glitter in the bottom of the glass? Moss seems too earthy, fishbowl grains don't seem right either. Should I line the lower part of the glass with some kind of plastic film? Get tiny clay pots and paint them and drop them in the glass? It would be tricky because the bulb is only slightly smaller in circumference than the inside of the glass. Maybe just prop the bulbs up with toothpicks and put food coloring in the water? I don't want to put anything on the outside of the glass because that would obscure the day of Christmas image.

How can something so simple be so un-obvious to me?
