However, I urge you to not use maraschino cherries. The process used to make a beautiful cherry into a maraschino cherry is revolting. Cherries are first bleached in a solution of calcium chloride and sulfur dioxide until they turn yellow. Then they are marinated in vats of high fructose corn syrup and artificial red coloring. Gross!

Those sandwiches would probably be even more delicious if you just used fresh cherries. Sure you have to pit them but well worth the effort IMO.

You have a good point there and if I can find fresh cherries I certainly will do that.
I did not realize that the jarred stuff was so bad.
