Ace bandages are not meant to be used as compression stockings. You dont want to get over the counter, they wont provide sufficient compression. Youd be better off with a knee high, as the compression from that will move the fluid up and out better.

Jobst makes good ones, there are a lot of websites that sell them, and sme of the better drugstores may br abke to get them for you. Talk with your PT or doctor about the best denier weight.

I have mild lower leg swelling (just a fact of age and previous career) so must use compression stockings especially when I travel. My Dr. recommended not using over 30, in fact she said the 15-20 mmHg were enough. She also said the knee-length were as good as the full length. I have several different weights (to 30 mmHg) and find even the lightest weight ones (8-15 mmHg) I find inexpensively at Walmart work well. Not for traveling but day to day. They are very similar to regular stockings in appearance. The heavier compression stockings come in various patterns and colors so can be fun for casual wear.

After I broke my ankle I tried an ankle sleeve but found it was not at all comfortable and a complete waste of money. While the compression stockings can be difficult to put on they are comfortable.
