I'm kind of a History/Science geek as some may know here!
An aside-
My Jr.-High Science-project (mid-70's!!) was on DNA! I won an alternate to the State science-Fair I'll have you know!
So-
Long b4 most people heard of DNA, I was studying library books about it. And yes, I grew up a farmer...
I was so fascinated by WHY living things changed. What drove this?!?!
Movies like Jurassic-Park just fascinate me...especially since I was waaaaaayyyy into Dinosaurs as a kid. OK...I still am...
Anyway....
Since we got Callie, our almost 4y/o Samoyed, I've found out the breed is truly "ancient". It shocks me how many people who ask her breed, have never HEARD of it!! WTH?? Early N & S Pole voyages obviously had Sammies, Huskies, & Malamutes doing big work.
Callie's 1st steps into our house:
She used to sleep frequently like this:
The Samoyed is one of 14 "Certified as Ancient" breeds of Dog. No "Wolf" DNA surprisingly. The whole Canine-genome has been studied heavily. If you'd like, check the PBS-Nature link below...
It's kinda neat having one of "The 14" oldest breeds!!
