Paperless (iphone, not sure about others). Also, my iphone has a reminder ap (was on phone, not purchased) that I've used too.

If you are using an Android phone check out Google Keep. I use it for lists. It's nice because you can access it online and on your phone.

What kind of phone do you have? You may already have a note pad type app.

Workflowy.

It is a great app for mobile products and pcs and macs.....syncs across all devices.....endlessly versatile and practical....use it every day for everything. I think martinagal (?) suggested it about a year ago....I've been its greatest proponent since. It is a fabulous tool!

I second what KSWL says. I too learned about Workflowy here, from Marinagal.

If you have an iphone, i think notes is free, and it has voice recognition which is pretty good.

I bet there is something already on the phone that would work. I started with S Memo, but it's not working well for the constant editing I need to do with lists.

Awesome Note is another good one, but again, I'm not sure if it's iphone only. Check it out!

I have an iphone. I use the Notes app for some things and two other to do list apps, each for different purposes. One is called To Do's and the other is called 2Do Lite. I make lists for everything and don't know what I did before I had an iPhone. I always have it in my pocket and can quickly add something whenever it comes to mind.

Evernote?

I loaded Workflowy and Simple Task earlier today, but haven't had a chance to really use them yet.
I looked up Evernote online and think I like the looks of it, by the video I watched.
BUT, Workflowy and Simple Task don't need any permissions at all where as Evernote seems to want everything so I didn't load it.
