Yes, I would put them on her and then pin in the side seams so they fit better, and whatever you pin it in at the hip, just take it all the way down the leg.

Hard to tell from the pic, but I assume there is an elastic waist band under the fold over. If it's in a casing, you may need to open up the casing, tighten up the elastic, and restitch the opening shut. To tighten up the elastic, you want to cut off the excess, then overlap the ends so they lay flat, one on top of the other, and then do a multiple step zig zag back and forth a few times to really stitch it shut.

If you don't have to mess with the crotch, that'd be better. If you do have to mess with the crotch, remember to shorten the crotch you have to take it in along the line of the inside leg seam. If you take it in along the line of the center front/center back seam, you are actually lengthening the crotch.

It might be easier though to hike it up at the waistline and leave the crotch alone.

But at some point, it's probably not going to be worth messing with any longer. So start with the side seams and the elastic and see what happens.

Thanks Annie! I knew you would have good advice. You are right - I will just go down the side seams....I think I just needed reassurance that they wouldn't be too "out of kilter" by doing that. I'm not going to spend too much time on them.

Depending on how much too big they are and if they sag in the croch, you can always sew a bigger seam there too.

Just to clarify, when you are ready to pin, have your daughter wear the pants inside out.
