Bill Bryson "At Home"

Jamie

I listened to this recently and enjoyed it and meant to mention to you decorators. Of course I forgot to, until just now seeing the Holland Bowl site (Gibby3000's post on the wedding gift thread) where I checked out the wooden salad servers and noticed that the Ceasar salad for had four tongs and the other ones had only three.

Bryson's book starts with a meander through an old parsonage, room by room, and uses domestic details as a launching point into all kinds of other discussions. It's an interesting listen. He is prone to list making, though, and it might not be so good to read. He also assumes a lot of historical authority where he might not really be justified in doing so. Nevertheless, I recommend the book for home and history lovers who like to muse and wonder.
