| Do you Railroad your stitches so they lie flatter on your fabric? This is a technique I learned years ago and it really makes a difference in what your finished work looks like. I know that if I want to enter a project into a craft fair this is one of things the Stitching Judges look for. Once you get used to railroading, it becomes a habit and your project looks so much nicer and I railroad each stitch not just the top stitch. It is hard to explain how to railroad so here is a link. | Hi Anne, It was great of you to post this link! It was much easier to understand than the way some sites explain it! I have only been cross stitching for the last 18 months, and really enjoy it. I used to do landscapes/oil paints for 10m years, then quilting for about another 10, then woodcarving. I love wood carving! I started cross stitching because our company sent DH and I to England to work in a new company they had bought. Well, I had to have a craft to do, so cross stitch it is. I did embroidery for years in my teens, and sewing also. It all goes together. Again, thanks for your help! Shirl |
