magnifying lamp

I am seeking a deck lamp that will magnify, and light up work. Which lamp do you use? Why do you like it? Where did you purchase it?
It would be useful if I could get some Canadian answers here... I am in NS, Canada ... and I'll be cross-eyed if I soon don't get such a lamp... lol

RE: magnifying lamp

The two big names are Dazor and Ott lite. Both are fairly expensive. I have a Dazor with the floor stand. Love it, but it takes up a bit of room and isn't the most attractive decor. Optics and light quality are excellent though. Be sure you consider where you sit (recliners are a problem), what kind of floor or lap frame you use, how long you need the light to extend. It is important for the light to be stable when extended, so weight and balance are a consideration. I started with a $30 clamp-on model from a fabric store to try out; in a year, I knew exactly what I DIDN'T want. Check out Nordic Needle for a tour of what is available. There are occasional buys to be had on ebay.
