removing waste stitch canvas

| I am working over some waste canvas but am not quite sure how to go about removing the threads when I'm finished. Should I wash the cloth first or pull out the threads first. Thanks for any help. |

spritz it with water to dampen it then pull out the threads.This is a good thing to do while watching tv.
