Do you mean backstitching? Best way I can think to describe it is drawing a line around the picture. Can you be a bit more detailed on what your having problems with?

I am talking about doing a outline stutch like in embroidery like to make butteryfly antennae's or making a cats eye that kind of outline stitching.

For the cat's eye I would do a backstitch. For the butterfly antennae I would use a stem stitch because it has more depth. I would do a few samples to see the effect and practice the stitch at the same time.
