Looking for guidelines for ornament exchange

I am looking for something to do for a women's group I am apart of. I thought of an ornament exchange, but I do not know the guidelines. Can some one help me in explaining it to me?

RE: Looking for guidelines for ornament exchange

I am not participating in an ornament exchange but I believe it is on this forum that there is a post for a Victorian ornament exchange - you can type that in "Victorian Ornament Exchange" in the search box at the top and it should come up. If you can't find it by typing that, it's not too far in pages from this page, see the bottom.

---------------

Victorian Christmas Craft Swap Rules
1). Players will be matched up with partners. This will be done by drawing out of a hat. After being matched up, you must contact each other for addresses.

2). Crafting will start on November 10th. Players must be ready to ship their boxes to their partners by December 10th. You must use delivery confirmation. Boxes should not cost more than $8.10 Priority Mail.

3). The items crafted should be Christmas related whether they be ornaments, candles, flower arrangements, table runners, etc. Please try to have at least 5 items in your box with at least 3 being different from each other.

4). Players must post their preferred Victorian Christmas decorating colors (& themes if you have any) here on the forum. After all you wouldn't be too happy if your buddy sends you everything in blue & silver if you happen to decorate for Christmas in red & gold. Buddies: Please pay attention to your partners color schemes!!! Other than that your crafts should be a total surprise for your partner.

5). Crafts absolutely must be Victorian in style!!! No sneaking in anything Country or Modern! Like I said before think back to elegant ladies in fine dresses, tea time in the afternoon, evening balls, and more. Victorian is elegant, feminine, opulent! Use lace, ribbons, beads, thread crochet, tatting, gilding, and lots of other options! Googling Images for Victorian Christmas and Victorian anything should give you a visual starting point if you are having trouble! Now you don't have to spend a ton of money on your crafts, just get creative in the use of your matierials.

6). Sign-ups will end November 5th....so let's get this party started!

RE: Looking for guidelines for ornament exchange

I attend an ornament exchange party every year. The only rules are- bring a dish to share and 24 ornaments to exchange. Actually, it's 23, one is yours to keep. We have so much fun. It used to be that everyone made their ornament, but some of the people just don't have time but they want to take part, so they go to Hobby Lobby or someplace like that and buy 24 ornaments.

After we eat a scrumptious variety of foods and soft drinks, we take turns walking around the LR handing out our ornaments. When everyone is finished, we sometimes trade colors with other women, or if some peeps didn't show up and we have extras, we'll trade to get a duplicate of a favorite ornament. It's really a fun evening.

RE: Looking for guidelines for ornament exchange

We have an ornament exchange at our church every year. Usually we have each person bring 12 handmade ornaments. We usually sing a few christmas carols, play a game, have a short devotional and exchange ornaments. To exchange the ornaments we sit in a circle. The first person describes how they made their ornament then pass their container of ornaments to the left. Each person around the circle takes 1 of these ornaments until the basket is empty. The next person shows their ornament and describes how they made it. They then pass their basket to the left and each person takes an ornament until the basket is empty. Continue around the circle. If you have more than 12 people it should still come out ok you will just not get one of every ornament. If you have less than 12 then each person should start out with the number of people in attendance in their container. For example if you only have 8 people you would start out with 8. If a person only wants to make 6, then they would only take 6 as the ornaments are passed around. We have tried several other ways to divide the ornaments but this way seems to work the best. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to explain it more clearly. We always finish the evening with cookies. Each lady brings a plate to share so the hostess only has to provide the beverages.
