Need more ideas for baby related items for craft shows

Posted by Lara (My Page) on

Hey there, it's good to be back! I've only found out recently about the boards becoming free again, and I've already started posting.
Anyway..my oldest daughter (deaf gal) has shown an interest to start crafting, isn't that wonderful? I dragged her along to a few craft shows, where I sold out of most of my Christmas items, and well, I thing she caught the crafting bug!
Well, we noticed that there weren't any vendors selling baby items, and so she wants to get a table next year and invest in that. I have made a few diaper cakes in the past, and I'm working on crocheted baby blankets, as well as baby ponchos, but we will need more variety. I also came across the "daddy's doody" belt idea, which I think is hilarious. Can anyone think of other ideas I can pass along to her? Thanks so much, and I will be checking back to see if anyone replied.

The hooded bath towels are nice for baby and there is a book that shows how to make them out of large size bath towels. The baby blankets made out of fleece would be easy for her to make too. Little ss t-shirts decorated seem to sell good here along with hand embroidered bibs. Burp towels would be another easy thing too. Need more ideas, let me know I can think of some more too. :o)

What is a "daddy's doody" belt? Sounds interesting. Burp towels was what came to my mind first. Very simple sewing.

I made several of these for friends that has children. With paint pens, draw designs on baby bottles, ceramic piggy banks or clear acrylic picture frames

There's a pic here that I saw online of the daddy's doody toolbelt. It's basically a useful gag gift. It seems to be loaded with stuff that would come in handy for the new daddy to use during a diaper change. I thought the clothes pin and mask were too funny!

I make large flannel receiving blankets that always sell well. I buy the flannel when Joann's runs it on sale and I serge the edge with wolly nylon thread. I make the 45" square. Any extra fabric that's left (I'm bad about saying give me the whole bolt), I make wash cloths, these sell well individually too. This year a repeat customer picked out her own flannel and had me make 55 wash cloths and she was using them as baby gifts. My 7 yr old cousin still uses some of her's because they're easier to handle than the adult sized ones.

Little signs "sshhhh, baby sleeping" are always nice. You can paint, decopauge (sp?), cross stitch, plastic canvas....
Tissue box covers, baby's first Christmas ornaments, picture frames, sock corsage, diaper bags, baby slings, shopping cart seat covers, carrier covers. Anything that can be easily personalized with paint pens (like picture frames or cups) with birth information should be good sellers.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions you guys! I came across a cute baby carriage pinata today, that I will be making to use as a center piece. It's a safe pinata, so it can also be used for baby's first birthday. Keep those ideas coming, always appreciated. This is too exciting!

Ok, Laura,I know what a pinata is, but what exactly is a "safe pinata"?

Hi Lara...I'm back too, now that the board's free...a super easy craft is embellished burp cloths.

Buy the PREFOLDED cloth diapers. Buy 1 yard of ribbon per diaper. Sew the ribbon across the (short) bottom & top of the diaper. You're done!

Instead of ribbon, I've also seen people add maybe a 2"-2.5" piece of fabric to one end. I've never done this, but I'm assuming you fold the fabric over so the front & back are both finished. To carry it further, (and make the end product worth more $), you could cover the entire back in teh same fabric.

Hmmm. is that clear as mud?

Just a thought if you are computer savy. Find a list for a baby sitter, etc and make up a booklet. List Dr's ##, emergency contact, favorite foods, meds, allergies, etc. Of course this needs to be updated but leave room. Bed times, if older, what TV can/cannot be watched, who can come over etc.

Here are some burp cloths that I made for my twin grandchildren. My DIL said she loved using them. They are made of a towel on one side and flannel on the other. I have the pattern and will e-mail it to you if you want it.

trying again!

These are for any age, but I made them for the twins first Valentine's day while they were still in the hospital. We hung them on their cribs and put their first valentines inside. I also have the pattern for them and will gladly share it.

Candy, your blanket is beautiful. I love the colors you used. Jenni, your burpcloths and bibs are very pretty too. Maryann, I have already sent you an email, you have such a neat idea for the burpcloths. I love the hearts too, could I possibly have that pattern too? :o) I just found out a friend of ours is expecting her 2nd baby so looks like I am going to be busy sewing baby things again myself! lol
