How to make a quick/easy colorful fabric robe

I have a school project to have the kids make a colorful robe like the one in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". We have like 1/2 hour to put it together, and none of us have the time or ability to sew. Any advice on how we can do this? I'm happy to buy something at a craft store if I knew what to buy! Obviously the final result doesn't have to look good, the real focus of the project is working together, but I still ideally would like to come up with some kind of colorful robe at the end.

What if you just bought a cheap, solid color robe and had the kids embellish it with multiple strands of ribbons, big buttons, etc. That way there's no sewing but if you spread the robe flat all the kids would be able to reach a spot and glue something on it. Giant sequins, yarn, ribbon, etc. It could be really funky! If they are young children, I think this would be the route to go, and with only 1/2 hour to spare. Sounds fun. Hope this helps!
