I think your idea of using the yellow tablecloth is great cause its got some stiffness to it.

Try your local florist or party store for a big yellow bow. We have a Golden Grotto party store and they make the yellow bows about the size of a dinner plate for about $3 - $ 5 . It depends on how big the ribbon is. The first time they were made with 3 inch ribbon and they cost $ 5 each. This time they were out of the 3 inch ribbon and only had the 1 1/2 inch, and the bows were about the same size and it cost $ 3 per bow. I liked the 1 1/2 inch ribbon the best, the price was better, and the bow actually looked nicer.

For 99 cents you can buy a package of paper twist and use that. It is stiff enough to form the loops and a couple of them would make a huge bow.
