Need Your Help With a Poem

bluelou
18 years ago

I have decided to give all my coworkers a nice boughten dish scrubber as a little gift at Christmas. I need a little poem I can attach to the handle. When someone has time, would you tweek this poem or do a new one for me:

Wishing you lots of Christmas cheer.

As each day of the coming year

Dirty dishes will always appear

I am giving you something to keep near.

At the kitchen sink as you scrub the gunk away

Maybe it will put a little smile on your face that day.

    My poetry is awful. If you google "poem" and "dirty dishes" you will get several hits. Here is the first hit I found.

    Thank God For Dirty Dishes

    Author Unknown

    Thank God for dirty dishes;
    They have a tale to tell.
    While others may go hungry,
    We're eating very well
    With home, health, and happiness,
    I shouldn't want to fuss;
    By the stack of evidence,
    God's been very good to us.

    I'd add "Merry Christmas" and your name.

    If you didn't want this this to be religious, you could change it to something like

    Thank Goodness For Dirty Dishes

    Thank goodness for dirty dishes;
    They have a tale to tell.
    While others may go hungry,
    We're eating very well
    With home, health, and happiness,
    I shouldn't want to fuss;
    By the stack of evidence,
    This years's been very good to us.

    Hi Bluelou - I asked for some suggestions from my buddies on The Cooking Forum and they came up with a few!

    Okay here's my attempt.

    Please accept my Holiday wishes
    On this small gift from me to you
    To help with those dirty dishes
    That your family left for you to do
    DonÂt for even one minute think
    That dirty dishes will never reappear
    So please keep it handy by the sink
    Cause Christmas comes but once a year
    But Dirty dishes are a daily thing.

    Christmas arrives only once a year,
    But dirty dishes are always here.
    So this gift is given from me to you
    To help with kitchen chores you do.
    I hope it brings a smile your way
    As my wish for a 'bubbly' holiday!

    Les, one thing I remember about you being at THS was all the poems you would write for others. I always thought that was so nice of you!

    noone would want a gift made of rubber.
    especially a boughten?dish scrubber.
    it's a reminder of a sink full of dishes.
    don't think it's at the top of anyones wishes.
    (but you're getting it anyway)

    hows that one?don't know what boughten is but it looks like a fancy word.maybe british.

    'Boughtin' is another way of saying 'purchased'.

    Oops...that's 'boughten'. I think that the op is trying to say she purchased a factory produced scrubber instead of handcrafting one.

    I bet you could package this up really cute. Sort of like the "We whisk you a Merry Christmas" whisks.

    I found this one somewhere; maybe you could change it around if you wanted to.

    God bless my little kitchen,
    I love its every nook.
    And Bless me as I do my work,
    Wash pots and pans and cook.

    And may the meals that I prepare
    Be seasoned from above,
    With Thy great blessing
    And They grace,
    But most of all Thy Love.
