Adding blackout fabric to roman shades

I'm looking for some advice. I purchased the Linden Street Thermal Roman Shades from JCP. They look great, but let too much light in. I know I can buy blackout fabric from Joannes, but what's the best way to attach it? I'm not a seamstress by any stretch, but I could probably cut out the fabric into strips to match the sections of the roman shades and handstich it to the back. I think I would need to use a small needle, otherwise I'd have little holes showing through. I read online that glue would burn the thermal fabric, so I'm hestitant to use that. The blinds were a custom size, so I can't return them.

Thanks for any suggestions!
