I am desperately wanting to make a true shag rug, in hot pink cotton yarn. I don't have a clue on how to get started, I have googled everything concerning shag rug making and get instructions on the shag rag rug. I have seen these on Ebay and online and they are way too expensive. I believe I can make one cheaper and nicer (or not)!

Please can someone point me in the right direction on the correct terminology for the materials and tools? Or the weight the yarn should be, etc. Also, what would be the best backing to use. I'm thinking the kind that is used in hooked rugs, but again, I'm not sure.
